What is  wmpnscfg.exe

The wmpncfg.exe process, or also known as the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service Configuration Application, is an associated program with Windows Media Player. The wmpnscfg.exe process’ main responsibility is to alert a user whenever there is a new media device that is found within his or her network’s PC system. It is also responsible for starting the NSS or the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service and to await notifications from its service. A popup in the system tray is usually displayed whenever the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service’s new device is found within the network, which will then let the user know about the new device’s availability. Whenever the user would then click upon the popup, the NSS will launch the Windows Media Player and would inquire the user whether to allow or disallow sharing with the new device. It is up to the user whether or not he or she would like to run the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service. This program can be enabled or disabled without harming the computer system or cause it to behave in an unexpected manner.
