What is  wmpmetwk.exe

The wmpmetwk.exe process is an executable program file that has been reported by many users as a malicious program associated with the Worm.Rebhip software, which is a self-replicating application known to infect Windows-based system. Classified as a worm by many user reports, the wmpmetwk.exe process is said to be capable of automatically initializing during system startup by using certain keys and entries that the wmpmetwk.exe process creates and injects into the Windows System Registry upon its successful placement and activation in the system. While continuing to covertly operate as a background process during system runtime, the wmpmetwk.exe process is said to create duplicates of itself and exploit unprotected TCP/IP network ports, in order to transmit these replicated copies to other computers that are remotely and locally connected to the network. Some users claim that the wmpmetwk.exe process is also integrated with Trojan-like functionalities, such as the ability to use these exploited TCP/IP network ports to download more malicious programs from remote servers that are operated and managed by the authors of the wmpmetwk.exe process.
