The wkssb.exe is part of the Microsoft Works Portfolio. The application can be launched by wkssb.exe in two ways, either from the Start Menu or from the Works Task Launcher. If launched from the Task Launcher, the user will choose how the EXE file will be viewed. In Compact View, the EXE file is displayed on a small rectangular box, minimizing the space the Portfolio uses up on the Desktop. In Docked View, the EXE file is place on one side of the screen, occupying a big portion of the Desktop. However on this view, the user can copy a lot of files. Wkssb.exe has a Gallery View where it displays the collection of all data. Microsoft Works Portfolio is a main storehouse that is organized to hold all information the user collects every time he or she uses the computer. These data includes documents, photos, video clips and Web pages which are saved on the hard disk from the Internet or email.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. wkssb.exe. is used by Microsoft Works Portfolio, If you shut down wkssb.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop wkssb.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Microsoft Works Portfolio, from your system.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as Microsoft Works Portfolio, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message.
