ESET Smart Security contains the windefender.exe file. The EXE file is responsible in providing the software with the capability to offer security to computers. ESET Smart Security is an antivirus and antimalware security suite. Windefender.exe provides ESET Smart Security with two default scans, namely Smart Scan and Custom Scan. The EXE file enables the software to detect threats and at the same time prevent host files from getting corrupted. It also provides a removable media control that enables user to block USB and other external drives from connecting to the computer. Smart Security has a firewall that can determine how the computer uses the Internet so it can identify which file or program is legitimate, minimizing the number of warning pop-ups it produces. Smart Security is also wary of other websites. It blocks the users from entering websites that are suspected to be dangerous. Windefender.exe also provides an interface which offers several options to the user.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. windefender.exe. is used by ESET Smart Security, If you shut down windefender.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop windefender.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is ESET Smart Security, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as ESET Smart Security, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
