The vmkbd.sys file is a system driver process bundled with other SYS driver files, some modular Dynamic Link Library (DLL) files, certain EXE program files, specific background process items and various associated components that are used and referenced by VMware software products. The vmkbd.sys file is particularly deployed as a component of the VMware Keyboard Filter Driver module, which is an applet built into these VMware software products. The vmkbd.sys file is placed in the system upon the installation of associated VMware applications, which also means the vmkbd.sys process is implemented into the installer distribution packages of these VMware software products. The vmkbd.sys file is referenced by the system and VMware programs whenever the user requests for a set of functionalities embedded in the VMware Keyboard Filter Driver module, and this is done in order for the associated VMware application to perform the requested operations of the user.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. vmkbd.sys. is used by VMware Software Products and VMware Keyboard Filter Driver Module, If you shut down vmkbd.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop vmkbd.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is VMware Software Products and VMware Keyboard Filter Driver Module, from your system.
