The vmh.exe file is an EXE application process implemented into the Microsoft Virtual Server software, which is a Windows program classified as a system virtualization tool developed by Microsoft with a set of features for creating virtual machines in computers running on widely used versions of Microsoft Windows, and these virtual machines can be accessed through a Web-based interface powered by the Internet Information Services (IIS) application. The vmh.exe process is included as one of the resource files and libraries bundled into the installer distribution packages of the Microsoft Virtual Server program, which also means the vmh.exe file is placed in the system upon the installation of the Microsoft Virtual Server application. The vmh.exe process is specifically deployed as the EXE program dispatcher file of the Virtual Machine Helper program, which is a small application built into the Microsoft Virtual Server software. Support and ongoing development for the Microsoft Virtual Server software has been discontinued as of this writing, and the Hyper-V software has replaced the Microsoft Virtual Server program.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. vmh.exe. is used by Microsoft Virtual Server and Virtual Machine Helper Application, If you shut down vmh.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop vmh.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Microsoft Virtual Server and Virtual Machine Helper Application, from your system.
