The vcagent.exe process is the executable file that launches VCAgent, a software for the maintenance and enhancement of laptop computers. VCAgent is developed by two major laptop computer manufacturers Sony Corporation and Hewlett-Packard Company. The Version Control Agent program or VCA resides in every laptop unit and it serves as the operating system protector as it detects, identifies, selects, and supports installation of enhancement firmware and software components. Factory-installed components are located in the VCRM or Version Control Repository Manager. VCA maintains these components while accommodating user-administered downloads by checking and eliminating duplications of each component already installed as specified in the Integrity Support Pack list located in the computer’s VCRM. This list is also known as ProLiant, and can be upgraded or updated by clicking the installation icon beside the status icon for the system software. Each single component has a check box next to it that the user can select to install. Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. vcagent.exe. is used by Version Control Agent, If you shut down vcagent.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop vcagent.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Version Control Agent, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as Version Control Agent, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
