The stormset.exe process is an executable file bundled with the other executable program files, modular DLL components, associated resources and system drivers that are used and referenced by the Storm Codec Pack, which is a set of video codecs that can be installed in the system to serve as an add-on for extending the video playback support and functionalities of the Windows Media Player software. The stormset.exe process is deployed as the executable dispatcher file of Storm Codec Pack installer distributions, which means downloading and activating the stormset.exe process will initiate the installation process of the set of video codecs included in the Storm Codec Pack. The stormset.exe process contains sequential lines of commands, application-specific directives, modular system resource references and program-specific module instructions that are implemented with source code compilation specifications normally integrated into program logic data stored in the EXE file format.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. stormset.exe. is used by Storm Codec Pack, If you shut down stormset.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop stormset.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Storm Codec Pack, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as Storm Codec Pack, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
