What is  steam.exe

The steam.exe process, or commonly known as Steam, is a digital right management, multiplayer platform and digital distribution developed by Valve Corporation. Valve Corporation (or Valve Software) is a video game development and digital distribution from America was widely recognized and made famous by the critically acclaimed and highly successful product, Half-Life. The program is well known as Steam, its social distribution network, and is developing its source engine since 2004. This EXE file is used to distribute games and other related media online. Steam’s is service is primarily enabling its users to download games and other software that they own within their virtual library onto their computer system. It provides the DRM (digital rights management) for its software titles, by providing its executable files a “custom executable generation” that are made specifically and uniquely for each user. Steam has over 2,000 games from various genre, ranging from Action to Indie and “everything in-between.”

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. steam.exe. is used by Steam, If you shut down steam.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop steam.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Steam, from your system.
