The file Starportlite.sys is a Windows driver of the process StarPort Storage Controller Lite which belongs to the software owned by Rocket Division Software. This application allows for the efficient functioning in the Windows operating system of a storage device. When a hardware or a device is connected to the computer, a driver is required by Windows to be installed to make the hardware or device able to perform as it is intended to perform through its connection to the computer. This file becomes a part of the Windows system but is not necessary for the operating system to function properly. The driver helps the device access the computer's operating system. Should a user desire, this process may be uninstalled from the computer's Control Panel without causing harm to the operating system. However, uninstalling the driver will stop the device or hardware from being used with the computer.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. starportlite.sys. is used by StarPort Storage Controller Lite, If you shut down starportlite.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
