The file spm.exe is an executable file that runs the Steganos Security Suite. This application allows a user to browse the Web safely by shielding him from possible online hackers. The program camouflages sensitive data so they do not attract unwanted attention. It has other features that allow a user to deal with confidential documents, which include encryption of the drive where the document is installed, erasing of browsing history and destruction of confidential documents. The file spm.exe is not a system file and may be disabled or uninstalled without causing damage to the operation of Windows. As with all other legitimate files, this executable file may also be used by a malicious software to remain undetected in the computer. If a user has installed the program associated with this file, chances are that the file is a clean one.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. spm.exe. is used by Steganos Security Suite, If you shut down spm.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop spm.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Steganos Security Suite, from your system.
