Snmp.exe is the process file for Simple Network Management Protocol, the Internet-standard protocol that manages devices on internet provider networks. SNMP devices include routers and switches, workstations, servers, printers, modems, and other network devices. SNMP consists of standard network management that includes application layer protocols, database schema, and data set objects. SNMP works by exposing the management data in variables form to the managed system, which describes the system configuration. The said variables are queried and/or set by managing application. A single SNMP network has three components: the managed device, the agent or the software running on devices, and the network management system or the software running on the manager. The managed device is the network node implementing the SNMP interface, allowing unidirectional or read-only or bidirectional accesses to node-specific information. The agent is the network-management software which resides on the managed device. It translates data to and from the SNMP specific form. The network management system executes applications which monitor and control the managed devices.
