The smscompanionclient.exe process is developed by Adaptiva and is known as Adaptiva Companion. Adaptiva is a company that provides a software that seamlessly integrates with Microsoft SCCM, or System Center Configuration Management, to help with the better administration of IT equipment while saving energy and reducing the total cost of ownership. Microsoft SCCM is a systems management software product developed by Microsoft for managing large groups of Windows-based computer systems. Adaptiva Companion provides one solution for all PC power and configuration management needs. PC power management centrally manages power profiles and power down PCs during non-work hours and enables end-users to set individual power profiles and maximize energy savings. PC configuration management, on the other hand, provides total control and visibility on system maintenance, wakes up personal computers after business hours, performs maintenance and restores power state to ensure end-user productivity with an available, updated and secure environment.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. smscompanionclient.exe. is used by Adaptiva Companion, If you shut down smscompanionclient.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop smscompanionclient.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Adaptiva Companion, from your system.
