The smb.sys process is a driver file that is basically called as the System Management Bus Driver, a part of the software Intel SMBus Controller or Message-oriented TCP/IP and TCP/IPv6 Protocol (SMB session) by Intel. Also known as SMBu Driver, or sometimes SMB Transport driver, this particular file is digitally signed from Microsoft Windows (Microsoft Time-Stamp Service). The System Management Bus driver is a wire on the motherboard (CPU) of the computer, and a product that is used to transfer information between the processor and other connected peripheral devices. This driver, that contains the smb.sys file, is actually a slow data bus, with a range of speed from 10 KHz to 100 KHz only. This also explains the reason why the program does not require a large amount of data or information when it’s processed to communicate with devices, such as temperature sensors, fan sensors, power-regulation devices and clocks. As an essential part of the program, the smb.sys file must not be deleted.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. smb.sys. is used by Intel SMBus Controller , If you shut down smb.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop smb.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Intel SMBus Controller , from your system.
