The file skypenames.exe, known as SkypeNames, belongs to software SkypeNames by Skype Technologies S.A. This process is part Skype 4.1 for Windows browser plugin for Internet Explorer or Firefox. The purpose of this browser extension is to provide users with a tool to detect any phone numbers or Skype Names on a Web page. Users can click these names or numbers directly from the page using Skype. Skype is an Internet telephony service provider that provider that offers free calling between subscribers and low-cost calls to non-service members. It delivers high quality audio and video calls over the Internet, file transfers, texting, and video-conferencing. Skype 4.1 has added a feature called screen sharing, which initiates a video call to broadcast a recording of the user's screen, a portion or in full, to one other viewer. The limitation of this application is that the user cannot simultaneously see the video of the person viewing the screen, and viewing is limited to one at a time. This service is available for desktop computers, tablet computers, notebook, and other mobile devices.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. skypenames.exe. is used by SkypeNames, If you shut down skypenames.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop skypenames.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is SkypeNames, from your system.
