The process safecfg.exe belongs to the process SecureVPN Client that is a component of software SafeNet VPN Client from SafeNet. It provides a solution on the client side of a cross platform VPN that can help users make a secure LAN with peers in the Internet. It provides virtual private networks (VPN) authentication and security to protect sensitive business resources that are accessed from the Internet at any time. The privacy of users is ensured by VPNs by providing a private tunnel through the internet for remote access to the network. For full security, the client side protection from SecureVPN Client protects VPN endpoints by a reliable user authentication mechanism. Using passwords that are susceptible to hacking, keyloggers and other attacks does not provide the level of security needed to protect network access. Security of remote access is strengthened by a user authentication solution such as SecureVPN Client. This solution works seamlessly with VPN products from Cisco, Juniper, Microsoft, Nortel, Siemens, and Check Point.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. safecfg.exe. is used by SecureVPN Client, If you shut down safecfg.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop safecfg.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is SecureVPN Client, from your system.

Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
