What is regsrv.exe
The file regsrv.exe is a component of the Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or later versions, Microsoft Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2) or later versions, and Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5 (SP5) or later versions. There are two versions of regsrv.exe on 64-bit versions of the Windows Operating System. The 64-bit-version is %systemroot%\System32\regsrv32.exe, and the 32-bit version is %systemroot%\SysWoW64\regsrv32.exe. OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) control, such as DLL or ActiveX Controls (OCX) files must be registered to update the Windows registry with the location and capabilities of the file so that a program runs correctly. The process regsrv.exe can be used to troubleshoot some issues with the Microsoft Internet Explorer, Windows, or other programs that use the regsrv.exe tool to register and unregister OLE controls. OLE enables users to create objects with one application and then link or embed them in a second application. Embedded objects retain their original format and links to the application that created them.
