The regi.sys file is the regi driver process which is part of the application InterVideo. The application has been developed by Intervideo, Incorporated. The regi.sys file in integrated in the device driver installed in the computer. A device driver allows Microsoft Windows to control the computer hardware such as the printer, sound card, monitor, cdrom, modem, mouse, among others. The regi driver enables the computer to use InterVideo. For example, WinDVD uses the InterVideo application and so it also needs the regi.sys file for it to run in the computer. The regi.sys file provides the user an integrated interface which can be used to capture, edit, author and burn media files. It also offers quality DVDs where the software displays a clean, crisp and sharp video and audio file. The regi.sys file allows InterVideo to perform advanced scene editing such as recording TV shows, copying commercials or deleting portions of home videos.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. regi.sys. is used by InterVideo, If you shut down regi.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop regi.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is InterVideo, from your system.
