The process file qttask.exe is part of the software that installs Apple’s QuickTime. The process’ function is to simply enable a QuickTime icon on the System Tray. The icon provides the user with a quick access to QuickTime. However, the file is mostly deemed as an unnecessary file to have enabled on the system. Usually, when users launch a QuickTime video, the system automatically launches QuickTime so the movie can be viewed by the end user. This being said, users see no need to still manually access the application through the System Tray icon. The file has been known to use up to 3.4 MB of CPU memory, which could cause slow CPU speed, especially if there are a number of other processes running in the background. Version 7.7.3 launches a 32-bit process that is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, and Windows 7 Ultimate. File size is usually around 412 KB.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. qttask.exe. is used by QuickTime System Tray Icon, If you shut down qttask.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop qttask.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is QuickTime System Tray Icon, from your system.
