The file psi_tray.exe,also called Secunia PSI Tray, is a tray icon for the software Secunia PSI. The Secunia PSI (Personal Software Inspector) is a scanning tool that identifies programs in need of security updates to safeguard the security of the PC against cybercriminals. When used to monitor installed applications for new updates, it gives extensive details about the installed software and provides direct links that can be used to update programs that are older and with compromised file security. Users have the option to choose either the simple or the advanced software interface. The simple interface provides basic information about the status of installed programs, with a simplified listing of any errors and a chart to gauge program security over time. Clicking on an error launches the proprietary easy-to-patch program update process. The advanced layout tab provides more details and more updates. Secunia PSI can automatically update older versions of installed software to patch vulnerabilities and maintain PC security.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. psi_tray.exe. is used by Secunia PSI, If you shut down psi_tray.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop psi_tray.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Secunia PSI, from your system.
