The file ppwebcap.exe is a process file from the company ScanSoft Inc. and belongs to the software PaperPort. This software is a document management system that is designed for the organizing, scanning, and sharing of digital documents and files. It has a built-in optical character recognition that creates searchable PDF files, allowing index and search with appropriate software such as Windows Search from Microsoft. Paperport Professional software combines fast scanning tools with PDF creation, connecting seamlessly to cloud services like Microsoft Live SkyDrive, Box.net and Google Docs to provide anytime and anywhere access to important documents and files. It enables viewers to access and view documents stored on shared network folders, with a feature that locks files in use over the network to prevent problems that may occur when more than one person tries to view and modify the file at the same time. The feature "Evernote Send To Connector" allows sending of documents with the drag and drop tool, addition of notes to documents, and attachment of documents and files to a note.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. ppwebcap.exe. is used by PaperPort, If you shut down ppwebcap.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop ppwebcap.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is PaperPort, from your system.
