The process file pg2.exe, also known as PeerGuardian, belongs to the Open Source application PeerGuardian 2 from Phoenix Labs. The executable file pg2.exe is a process that acts as a utility for peer-to-peer (P2P) networking tools that add extra security features. It is a startup entry that is started automatically from a Run, RunOnce, RunServices, or RunServicesOnce in the registry. The application PeerGuardian 2 (also called Peerblock) is an IP blocker for Windows. The application enables its users to control how the PC interacts with other computers over the Internet. It provides protection in P2P networks by blocking IP addresses that has been included by the user in the blocklist. The tools in the application support a list editor, automatic blocklist updates, multiple lists, and blocking of IPx4 like ICMP, UDP, and TCP. The original author of PeerGuardian 2 has discontinued its development, but a new team that renamed it Peerblock has continued its development. Since Peerguardian is Open Source, users can modify the program or even branch off into another project.
