This application is the Sony Ericsson mobile user's gateway to features such as software updates, user manuals and service, support, and guide. It acts as a portal to Sony Xperia, a family of smartphones and Tablets from Sony Ericsson that has been available since 2008. The executable file is a collection of tools and applications that can be accessed when a device is connected to the computer. This include operator features and applications such as management of contacts and calendars, backup and restore session for the smartphone (dependent on phone model and operator), phone software updates, and media management with Media Go. A key feature is the tool Xperia Transfer that moves content from an iPhone to the Xperia smartphone and Tablet.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. pccompanion.exe. is used by PC Companion, If you shut down pccompanion.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop pccompanion.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is PC Companion, from your system.
