The pbeagent.exe process is the executable file for PowerChute Business Edition Agent, a module for system power management licensed by American Power Conversion. Some of the PowerChute clients are: • Home Office • Access Provider Networks • Business Networks • Data Centers and Facilities PowerChute is a program designed by APC to control the UPS or uninterruptible power supplies the company produces. APC provides automatic shutdown of servers in workstations in the events of power outage. APC logs and monitors the UPS status. PowerChute Business Edition provides safe server shutdown up to 25 network servers. The UPS management card by APC enables UPS management but it directly connects to the network by its IP address to avoid dependence to server. The UPS Network Management Card with PowerChute Network Shutdown enable safe server shutdown thru communication over a network connecting to any network-capably APC UPS or those containing an UPS Network Management Card.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. pbeagent.exe. is used by APC PowerChute, If you shut down pbeagent.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop pbeagent.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is APC PowerChute, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as APC PowerChute, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
