Onenote.exe belongs to Microsoft OneNote software which is formerly called Microsoft Office OneNote. It has been developed by Microsoft. Upon execution, the onenote.exe file enables the user to manage the functionalities the software offers. OneNote is organized where individual notes are saved in Pages and then compiled in Sections and placed in Notebooks. The user can share all notes whether handwritten or typed, drawings, screen clippings and audio files with other users of the Microsoft OneNote software over the Internet. The software can gather all these data and allows multi-user collaboration. As part of its multi-user capability, it allows users to edit the notes offline and to synchronize them later on. So members of the workgroup can still collaborate even when not online. The software can also permit the users to work on one page at the same time. Notes can also be edited from the web browser of the user.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. onenote.exe. is used by Microsoft OneNote, If you shut down onenote.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop onenote.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Microsoft OneNote, from your system.
