The nvport.sys process is a component system file implemented into a modular program built into the firmware and driver software distributions that are bundled with certain NVIDIA hardware devices. The nvport.sys file is specifically packaged with the other system files, program files and modules required by the NVIDIA Port IO Control Driver module. This means the nvport.sys file is referenced by the system or the associated firmware and driver software component of the supported NVIDIA hardware device whenever the NVIDIA Port IO Control Driver module is required to be loaded unto the system upon user request. The nvport.sys file contains source code that is used by the NVIDIA Port IO Control Driver module in order to implement some of its functionalities into the system. The source code stored in the nvport.sys file is encoded with data compression specifications and integrated with program logic compilation standards normally used for source code saved in the SYS file format.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. nvport.sys. is used by NVIDIA Port IO Control Driver Module, If you shut down nvport.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop nvport.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is NVIDIA Port IO Control Driver Module, from your system.
