What is ntpd.exe
The process ntpd.exe is also known as the Network Time Protocol Daemon or NTPd, which belongs to the software Network Time Protocol from Meinberg Funkuhren GmbH. It is not a Windows core file, has no window, and uses ports to connect to a LAN (local area network) or to the Internet. Setting up and running the NTPd synchronizes the software clock of a GNU/ Linux system with the Internet time servers using Network Time Protocol. NTP is the protocol that synchronizes the clocks of computers over a network. If the NTPd set-up is properly done, the computer acts as a time server itself. The software clock, also known as system clock, keeps track of Time, Time Zone, and DST. The reference time for calculating the software clock is the number of seconds since midnight from January 1, 1970 Universal Coordinated Time (UTC). The calculation is done by the Linux kernel. The initial value of the software clock is calculated from the hardware clock, dependent on the contents of /etc/adjtime/, or from /etc/rc.conf for systems still using the old initscripts. The software clock runs independently of the hardware clock after the boot-up has completed.
