The ntfs.sys process is also known as the NT File System Driver and it is owned by the Microsoft Corporation. The ntfs.sys process is used for applications that are created and stored with the use of the FSD of NTFS. The Windows operating system checks for authority (since only legal users can run this), followed by the I/O management that transforms the file handle to a file object indicator. After the process, the NTFS gets files in disk with the use of the file object indicator. The NTFS collects the SCB (stream control block) of file attribute with the use of the file object indicator. The stream control block is expressed by the single attribute file and contains information on how to get the specified attribute of the SCBs of a file point to data construction FCB (File Control Block). The FCB has the indicator that specifies the file record of the MFT (main file table).

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. ntfs.sys. is used by NT File System Driver, If you shut down ntfs.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop ntfs.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is NT File System Driver, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as NT File System Driver, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
