The sdclt.exe process is the executable file for SDCLT, a file backup scheme for Windows-based computers. Sdclt.exe is the new name replacement for the older ntbackup.exe configuration. The meaning of the acronym SDCLT, however, still has been unknown.
The many functions of SDCLT include:
• Manages the Windows file backup and replaces the ntbackup.exe’s older version.
• Found in C:\Windows\System32 directory and contains no harmful content. Sdclt.exe can be run from the Start menu and open the backup manager from its window screen.
• Recently confined to be running on Windows Vista only.
• The built-in backup system functionality is reported to stop when sdclt.exe is disabled.
• The backup function can also be directed as the user specifies.
There are reports of malware disguising as Sdclt.exe or SDCLT and bring harm to the system when those files are downloaded. Thus it is recommended that the users run an updated copy of antivirus scanner to isolate and therefore remove these files.
