What is  nail.exe

The process nail.exe is a component of the adware program Aurora that generates excessive popup adware messages and attacks browser information such as Web sites visited. This program is combination adware/ hijacker that return the browser data to a remote server for analysis. It modifies the value "Shell" = "Explorer.exe" to "Shell" = "Explorer.exe %Windir%\Nail.exe in the registry subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\Winlogon so that it runs every time Windows start. This malware has the capability to change intermittently the Internet and computer desktop settings to links preferred by the author, or links to the author's sponsors. Aurora updates itself by downloading new versions and it is capable of recreating files to repair it. Removal of this adware from an infected system must be thoroughly completed to ensure that it will not be able to repair and re-install.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. nail.exe. is used by Aurora, If you shut down nail.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop nail.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Aurora, from your system.
