The msmsgs.exe process is a Windows Messenger utility which was created by the Microsoft Corporation. The Windows Messenger is a client owned by Microsoft which is included in the Windows Operating System. It contains various features for productivity and communications processes including, instant messaging, support for SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), presence awareness, application sharing, file transfer and whiteboarding. It integrates with Microsoft processes including Microsoft Exchange, Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook and the Remote Assistance feature (from the Microsoft XP version). High definition photo sharing and video cameras when chatting are available. Video chat is also high definition and the user can send a video message to anyone of his or her friends. Social networks can also be connected so they are updated within one place. A startup by this program is dependent on the user. The user can enable or disable this process without any detrimental effect on the operation of his or her computer system.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. msmsgs.exe. is used by Windows Messenger, If you shut down msmsgs.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop msmsgs.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Windows Messenger, from your system.
