The mset.exe process is an executable program file that has been reported by many users as a malicious application associated with a variant of the Win32/Cutwail.AQ application, which is a known Trojan downloader. The same user reports claim that the mset.exe process is capable of exploiting unsecure or unprotected TCP/IP network ports of the infected system, in order to initiate contact with predesignated remote servers that are operated and managed by the authors of this malicious program. The same users also state that the mset.exe process, upon establishing communications with these Web servers, begins to download more malicious applications unto the system. Other users claim that the mset.exe process is also capable of hijacking the search and homepage settings of outdated Web browsers and also extract Internet surfing information from the default Web browser of the infected system, in which these collected details are said to be transmitted by the mset.exe process to the remote servers of its authors.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. mset.exe. is used by Win32/Cutwail.AQ Trojan Downloader, If you shut down mset.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop mset.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Win32/Cutwail.AQ Trojan Downloader, from your system.
