The Trojan-Backdoor.agent program is a family of Trojans reported to be integrated with spyware-like capabilities aside from its Trojan functions, and the mscnf.exe process is an executable file that many user reports claim as a variant of a malicious application associated with the Trojan-Backdoor.agent malware. The same user reports state that the mscnf.exe process can automatically initialize during system startup and operate in the background without user consent during system runtime. Some users said the mscnf.exe process is capable of creating and inserting keys and entries into the Windows System Registry, in order for the system to provide the mscnf.exe process with system startup activation privileges, and the mscnf.exe process creates and injects these keys and entries into the Windows System Registry upon the successful placement and activation of the mscnf.exe file in the Windows-based system. The mscnf.exe process, upon its initialization during system startup, is said to operate as a background process to search for system vulnerabilities that it can exploit, such as unprotected TCP/IP network ports and outdated Web browsers, in order to use these system exploits to initiate contact with the remote servers of its authors and download more malicious programs unto the system, or upload sensitive user data and Internet surfing information collected from the infected system and its default Web browser to these predesignated Web servers.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. mscnf.exe. is used by Trojan-Backdoor.agent, If you shut down mscnf.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop mscnf.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Trojan-Backdoor.agent, from your system.
