The executable mpsigstub.exe file appears to be part of software from Microsoft. Based on some users’ encounters with the file, it serves as an installer for Windows updates. What the file does is to direct update files to a temporary folder. Some users on the other hand, reported that the file is part of Microsoft’s Malware Protection software. The file executes a process known as Microsoft Malware Protection Signature Stub. For this process, the mpsigstub.exe file is installed in the Windows folder, saved in the following format: C:\Windows\System 32\mpsigstub.exe. The file looks for updates for the anti-malware software. In this regard, the file does appear to be part of Windows Automatic Update tool. The file has an average size of 237,072 bytes. On some instances, the file size is 221,568 bytes. Overall, the file is considered as harmless since it is licensed under Microsoft. On the occasion that the file is detected as a malicious file, the detection mostly turned out to be a false positive.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. mpsigstub.exe. is used by Microsoft Malware Protection Signature Stub, If you shut down mpsigstub.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop mpsigstub.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Microsoft Malware Protection Signature Stub, from your system.
