McAfee Personal Firewall Tray Monitor is the service name of the process termed as mpftray.exe, which is basically an executable or EXE file, and is a part of the program McAfee Personal Firewall, which is developed by McAfee Security. McAfee Personal Firewall, or MPF, is a type of security software that is installed onto a computer system, to provide protection against suspicious activities. It is exclusively designed as a defensive barrier between the computer and the Internet, so it enables the user to control what must come in and out of the PC. This program is also made to monitor Internet traffic, so any suspicious habits or activities are detected and instant protection or defense is provided, which generally avoid disrupting any Internet activity. As a component of this security program, mpftray.exe is considered to be an essential file and must continuously run in the background of a Windows operating system, and should not be terminated, as it provides functionality that protects the computer and data.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. mpftray.exe. is used by McAfee Personal Firewall, If you shut down mpftray.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop mpftray.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is McAfee Personal Firewall, from your system.
