What is  mpfilter.sys

Developed by Microsoft Corporation, mpfilter.sys is the system filter driver file for Malware protection, a security tool that protects the computer from malicious or potentially unwanted software that may be installed in the system with no adequate user consent. Malware protection works as an anti-spyware program the same function as the Virus Doctor. Malware infection originates from Internet sites that show ads or advertisements that pretend as anti-malware scanners. After scanning the computer, it would state that the computer is infected, making the user download and install the promoted protection program. These online offers are fake, are only advertisements, and have no clue what programs are running on the computer. The MpFilter.sys file is designed as an AntiMalware Engine which resides and is dependent on the fltmgr.sys or Filter Manager Driver similar to other AntiMalware or AntiVirus applications that are currently programmed to be dependent on the Filter Manager Driver.
