What is  mfpmp.exe

Developed by Microsoft Corporation, mfpmp.exe is the process file for Media Foundation, a COM-based multimedia framework infrastructure and pipeline for digital media in Windows-based platforms. It is intended to replace Microsoft DirectShow, DirectX Media Objects, Windows Media SDK, and other known "legacy" multimedia APIs like Video for Windows and Audio Compression Manager. The current DirectShow technology would be gradually replaced by Media Foundation, starting with several few features. DirectShow and Media Foundation will co-exist. Media Foundation will eventually not be available for earlier Windows versions, starting with Windows XP. The Media Foundation is divided into a Control layer, a Core Layer and a Platform layer. Initially, the core layer encloses the main functionality of Media Foundation, consisting of pipeline, with three components: the Media Source, the Media Sink and the Media Foundation Transforms. The media source is the source of all multimedia data and encapsulates various data sources, files, network server, and a camcorder, with the functionality of a common interface.
