What is  mfefire.exe

The mfefire.exe process is also known as McAfee Core Firewall Service. It is McAfee’s Anti-virus Firewall Service program. The main function of the McAfee Firewall is the prevention of malicious files from being installed or installing themselves or third party components into a user’s computer system. This program is not a system process, but it is needed in order for the McAfee Firewall to be executed. It runs commonly on the Windows Operating System and is found within the main drives or the Program Files folder of a PC system. The mfefire.exe process runs in the background and, when it is in use, prevents programs from installing or executing themselves within the user’s computer system without his or her permission. It can detect processes when they attempt to run, block them temporarily and would ask the user’s permission on whether to install or execute the program. This program is not a harmful file but a rather helpful program that could aid the computer system in preventing malicious threats or software from being installed and run within a computer system. Though, it typically use a lot of CPU memory which has a negative effect on a PC’s performance.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. mfefire.exe. is used by McAfee Firewall, If you shut down mfefire.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start.
