McAfee On-Access Scanner, a process with an executable file extension of mcshield.exe, is an important component of McAfee Antivirus products. The primary function of the file is to scan your computer, and all the files and data that are coming in from the Internet, from your emails or from external drives; to make sure that no threat is attached to these files. If any are discovered by the scanner, it will automatically delete the file or put it in isolation so it will not infect your PC. If there is incoming threat, the user will be immediately alerted so the file will not be opened, accessed or executed. This is a background task that should be enabled while the PC is open, whether or not the PC is connected to the Internet. By default, the location of the file is C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\SystemCore\mcshield.exe. It has an approximate RAM usage of 15.37 MB, and a file size of 194.34 KB.
