The mapsvc.exe process is an executable component file of the Microsoft Services for Network File System module, which is implemented by Microsoft Windows as the Microsoft Services for NFS Mapping Server Service process. The mapsvc.exe process is specifically deployed by Microsoft Windows as the executable dispatcher file of the Microsoft Services NFS Mapping Server Service module. This means the mapsvc.exe process is activated by the Microsoft Windows system whenever it needs to implement some of the functionalities embedded in the Microsoft Services NFS Mapping Server Service process into the system as requested by the user through an installed third party or built-in application, or via the driver and firmware components of a compatible hardware device that is connected to the system.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. mapsvc.exe. is used by Microsoft Services NFS Mapping Server Service Module and Microsoft Windows, If you shut down mapsvc.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop mapsvc.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Microsoft Services NFS Mapping Server Service Module and Microsoft Windows, from your system.
