The mapmem.sys process is a system driver file that is used by the CheckIt Diagnostics software for implementing its set of embedded functionalities into the system, and the mapmem.sys process is also used by Microsoft Windows for allowing the CheckIt Diagnostics program to perform its integrated operations and to use required system resources. The mapmem.sys file is placed in the system upon the installation of the CheckIt Diagnostics software, which is a Windows program classified as a hardware maintenance utility and system optimization tool developed by Smith Micro Software with a set of functionalities for scanning and detecting hardware issues and system stability risks caused by bad clusters or damaged data sectors, improperly functioning hardware components, invalid or outdated drivers, corrupted registry keys and entries among others. This also means the mapmem.sys file is integrated into the installer distribution packages of the CheckIt Diagnostics software.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. mapmem.sys. is used by Smith Micro Software CheckIt Diagnostics, If you shut down mapmem.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop mapmem.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Smith Micro Software CheckIt Diagnostics, from your system.
