The maktray.exe process is an executable program file that is deployed as one of the EXE application components of McAfee software products, which consist of a suite of Windows programs classified as system security tools that were designed with a set of features for monitoring, detecting and protecting Windows-based systems against user privacy threats, data security risks, hacker attacks, data loss or corruption and system stability problems caused by viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware applications, badware items and backdoor rootkits among other malicious programs. The maktray.exe process is specifically integrated into the McAfee Security Agent Taskbar Extension module, which is a built-in applet of the McAfee Common Framework architecture that is designed into these associated McAfee system security tools. The maktray.exe file is placed in the system upon the installation of these McAfee programs.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. maktray.exe. is used by McAfee Software Products and McAfee Common Framework and McAfee Security Agent Taskbar Extension Module, If you shut down maktray.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop maktray.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is McAfee Software Products and McAfee Common Framework and McAfee Security Agent Taskbar Extension Module, from your system.
