What is  logon.scr

The logon.scr process is also known as the Logon Screen Saver and it is owned by the Microsoft Corporation. It provides screensaver during the login phase of the startup. The program is invisible and it is a Microsoft signed file. It is a Windows core system file and it is non-essential process. It is also a non-system process which means that the user is capable of enabling or disabling the process according to his or her liking. It has the technical security rating of 4% dangerous, making it very safe to be run by the user’s computer system. It can be disabled; however, it is advisable for the user to not terminate the file as it may cause the computer system to behave erratically. This program is executed under the SYSTEM account in Windows with vast privileges on the local computer and can act as the computer within the network and is executed by the process Windows NT Logon Application (by Microsoft).

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. logon.scr. is used by Logon Screen Saver, If you shut down logon.scr, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop logon.scr, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Logon Screen Saver, from your system.
