Adobe Illustrator is the service name termed for the process illustrator.exe, which is an executable or EXE file, and is a component of the software branded as Adobe Illustrator, particularly version CS4 and version CS3, also known as Adobe Illustrator CS, which is created by Adobe Systems Incorporated. Adobe Illustrator is technically a graphic design program, or a vector graphics editing tool, that is installed onto computer, so is the illustrator.exe file. As a component, the illustrator.exe file, which is digitally signed from Adobe Systems Incorporated - VeriSign Time Stamping Services Signer, is stored onto the file folder, registered into the Windows registry, and executes itself to perform its function in the background of the system. Unless it is causing problems that affect the performance of the computer system, the illustrator.exe file needs to remain running, regardless of the version of the Microsoft Windows Operating System, or Windows OS.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. illustrator.exe. is used by Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Illustrator CS, If you shut down illustrator.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop illustrator.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Illustrator CS, from your system.
