The file htcupctloader.exe is a process known as HTC Sync or HTC Sync Loader. The file is needed for HTC mobile phones to synchronize with the computer. With the file in place, the computer system will automatically synchronize all data stored on your HTC phone with the PC; providing you with access to data in an instant. Users found the file using up to 25% of CPU, or about 100MB, even while the file is in display mode only on the task bar. While HTC does not recommend disabling the file, users nevertheless choose to disable the process to prevent it from being launched with Windows startup. Users only enable the file before plugging in their phones to enable the system to recognize the phone once it is plugged in. There were no reports of a similar htcupctloader.exe file that caused viruses or malicious to infect the system. Likewise, there were no reports of htcupctloader.exe posing as malicious software.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. htcupctloader.exe. is used by HTC Sync Loader, If you shut down htcupctloader.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop htcupctloader.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is HTC Sync Loader, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as HTC Sync Loader, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
