This program communicates with the Houdini License Server on Windows in order for the user to acquire a license for the Houdini software. Houdini is 3D animation software that is adapted from a suite of procedural generation software tools. Houdini covers all the major areas of 3D production that includes modeling, animation, rendering, and lighting. The modeling feature of Houdini includes all standard geometry entities like Bezier curves, polygons, hierarchical NURBs (non-uniform rational b-splines), metaballs, trims and patches. It employs keyframed animation, raw channel manipulation (CHOPs), and motion capture support, and lighting that uses node-based shader authoring, lighting and re-lighting in an IPR viewer. Compositing is done with a full compositor of floating-point and deep-layered images. Houdini supports a variety of renderers that include mental ray, Mantra: Renderman, and various 3D party supports.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. hserver.exe. is used by Houdini License Client, If you shut down hserver.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop hserver.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Houdini License Client, from your system.
