The hphid411.sys file is the process called IEEE-1284.4 Driver for Windows 2000 that is part of the application HP DOT4 Windows 2000 created by Hewlett-Packard Company. This process file has a digital signature from Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher with certificate issued by VeriSign Time Stamping Service. The hphid411.sys file is a driver. This process does not use a visible window. It is not a system process. DOT4 is the protocol that allows a device belonging to an MFP [multifunction peripheral] to simultaneously receive and send multiple data packets across single physical channel going to other devices on MFP. Data exchanges are independent that means one does not affect the other. The HP OfficeJEt series is an example of MFP. These devices are all-in-one printer, fax machine and scanner. The IEEE 1284.4 driver specifies the DOT4 protocol. IEEE 1284.4 is the enhanced version of IEEE 1284 that serves as a protocol for parallel ports on PC [personal computers].

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. hphid411.sys. is used by HP DOT4 Windows 2000, If you shut down hphid411.sys, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop hphid411.sys, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is HP DOT4 Windows 2000, from your system.
