Hotkey Utility is the service name of the process hotkeyyutility.exe, and is the similar term of the software that houses it, which is Hotkey Utility, and is developed by Acer. Hotkey Utility is a type of utility tool software that is specially designed to control the use of special functions keys, or hotkeys, on OEM laptops by Acer. Once the software is installed onto the computer system, hotkeyyutility.exe stores itself on a folder location, registers with run identifier called Hotkey Utility, and the execution command C:\Program Files\eMachines\Hotkey Utility\HotkeyUtility.exe into the Windows registry HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, and automatically run in the background. It is advisable to keep this file functional and running as a background service, to enables its task, and allows the user to operate the special function keys. This file is compatible with most or all versions of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, such as Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows XP, and Windows Vista.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. hotkeyutility.exe. is used by Hotkey Utility, If you shut down hotkeyutility.exe, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop hotkeyutility.exe, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Hotkey Utility, from your system.

After uninstalling applications it is a good idea to scan you Windows registry for any left over traces of applications. Registry Reviver by ReviverSoft is a great tool for doing this.

A process usually a part of an installed application such as Hotkey Utility, or your operating system that is responsible for running in functions of that application. Some application require that they have processes running all the time so they can do things such as check for updates or notify you when you get an instant message. Some poorly written applications have many processes that run that may not be required and take up valuable processing power within your computer.
