What is  hfp.exe

The hfp.exe file is a process used by the application HFP Service or Hands-Free Profile Service by Bluetooth. This program does not use a visible window. It is not a core file for Windows. This process file can hide itself and record inputs. HFP or Hands-Free Profile service provides control and management functions for paired Bluetooth-enabled phones. This service works asynchronously. HFP API functions immediately return without waiting for HFP service to fulfill a completed request. HFP service will send results of a function call to the registered processes in Windows messages. Bluetooth HFP depends on Serial Port Profile or SPP and Generic Access Profile or GAP. HFP defines what is needed to use a mobile device such as cellular phone in connection with hands-free device through Bluetooth. The mobile device will serve as AG [audio gateway] for output and input audio while the hands-free device serves the output and input audio mechanism for AG and uses AT commands to control it. HFP service defines the procedures and protocols used by devices that implement “Operating a Phone via In-Car Device” model such as cellphones and hands-free units. Implementation of HFP service allows the hands-free unit in a car to connect to cellphone wirelessly to function as output and input audio mechanism, provide full duplex audio and functional combinations like noise suppression, voice recognition and acoustic echo cancellation.
