The hercplgs.cpl file is the process called Hercules sound CPL based on that is part of the application hercplgs CPL by Hercules that is later on acquired by Guillemot. This program uses a visible window. It runs when you start Windows using the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. It is not a system process. It originates from the software installed in the system. It is not a core file for Windows that means the operating system can run without requiring this process. Hercules Computer Technology, Inc. is formed by Kevin Jenkins and Van Suwannukul. It offers graphics cards with MDA-compatible Hercules Graphics Card as its biggest product. Files with .cpl extensions usually pertain to Control Panel applets on Windows. CPL files on Windows\System folder represent the tools on Windows Control Panel. These CPL files automatically load when you run the Control Panel. Sometimes, control panel files are loaded using entries from the MMCPL section of Control.ini file.

Most non-system processes that are running can be stopped because they are not involved in running your operating system. hercplgs.cpl. is used by Hercules, If you shut down hercplgs.cpl, it will likely start again at a later time either after you restart your computer or after an application start. To stop hercplgs.cpl, permanently you need to uninstall the application that runs this process which in this case is Hercules, from your system.
